What are the Planes of Development?

Dr. Montessori defined four planes of development in the life of the child, from birth to adulthood. The first plane of development goes from 0-6 years old, a time in which children use all of their senses to learn about the world around them and form the foundation of their personality. This time is marked by tremendous physical and psychological growth.

The first plane of development is the best time to introduce children to multiple languages, since it is when both the Absorbent Mind and the Sensitive Period for Language are active.

Children have the potential to speak multiple languages fluently when exposed to them in rich, dynamic language environments during the first plane of development.
